Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies a broad upward pattern and notes that Korea has the lowest rates, which are relevant features. However, the overview is too general: the USA does not rise continuously, since it dips from about 45% to 43% before increasing, and Korea is the lowest rather than simply having the “smallest rates.” The USA figures are also misreported: it begins at roughly 45%, not 50%, and reaches about 74%, not 70%. England’s final rate is around 69%, but this comparison is left incomplete. The response is only 75 words, below the required 150, and therefore leaves most countries and key comparisons unreported. Develop a fuller overview and support it with accurate examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic structure: an introductory sentence, an overview beginning “Overall,” and a detail sentence introduced by “Looking at the details.” This gives the reader some sense of the response’s direction. However, the progression stops abruptly, with no organised comparison of the remaining countries or clear grouping of trends. The final sentence trails off after mentioning England, and the link “also” does not clearly show how its figure relates to the USA’s. Improve cohesion by separating the overview from two detail paragraphs, grouping countries with similar rates or changes, and using explicit comparisons such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “upward trend,” “significant increase,” “decline,” and “rising sharply,” so the main trend is generally understandable. However, the range is narrow and several choices are inaccurate or awkward: “smallest rates” is not a natural way to describe Korea’s position, and “a significantly increase” uses the wrong form and collocation. Repetition of “increase” and “rate” also limits precision. Use vocabulary that distinguishes levels from changes, such as “the lowest proportion” and “rose steadily,” and vary descriptions of movement. Accurate country names and consistent capitalisation would also make the report more polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts both simple and more developed sentence forms, including the contrast structure “started … before rising” and the overview clause beginning “Overall, it is clear that…”. Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, and punctuation remain. For example, “Overall … period.Usa” lacks a space and capitalisation after the full stop, while “england showed a significantly increase” has an incorrect adjective form and an incomplete comparison. The opening sentence also has an awkwardly constructed list of “rates” and “percentages.” Use complete sentences, check subject–verb and word-form patterns, and punctuate country comparisons clearly.
