Student answer (Band 5.0)

The line graph represents previous and present rates of overweight and it also tells about nearcoming over weight ratio in nine countries respectively.

Overall, the graph represents the ratio of weight which was at lower side but with passage of time there was an upward trajectory regarding each country which shows a steady rise. The graph shows that USA had steady rise in weight over the time while in Korea, weight ratio increased at low rate over time.

Between 1970 and 1980, weight ratio of USA can be seen which was below 50%. From 1980 to 1990, there was steady increase in weight ratio of above mentioned nation and it reached approximately above 70% in 2020. In line with this, Korea had weight rate which was above 20% between time period.however, it rised with time but it showed mild upward trajectory till 2020. Furthermore, from 1980 to 2020, rest of countries showed upward trend respectively as Austria had weight rate below 40% but there was dramatic rise between 2000 and 2010 and reached above 40%. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad upward direction and correctly note that the USA ends at about 74% and Korea remains the lowest, reaching roughly 35%. However, the overview is too general: saying every country rose steadily overlooks fluctuations, and the claim that the other countries stayed below 50% is inaccurate because England, Australia, Spain and Canada all exceed this level by the end. Several comparisons are missing, especially the high final rates in the USA, England and Australia versus the lower rates in Korea, France and Italy. Some details are also imprecise: the USA was already around 45% in 1972, not simply below 50% throughout the early period, and Austria’s rise was not dramatic. Select the main contrasts and support them with accurate figures and time periods.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview and a body paragraph, so there is some basic organisation. It also uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In line with this” and “Furthermore.” However, ideas do not progress clearly: the body moves from the USA to Korea, Austria and England without a consistent grouping or comparison, and the final sentence is unfinished. Some links are mechanical or unclear, as in “In line with this,” which does not show a clear relationship between the USA and Korea. Organise the details into logical groups—for example, the highest-rising countries and the lower-rate countries—and use clear references and complete sentences to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of trend vocabulary, including “upward trajectory,” “steady rise” and “dramatic rise,” and the topic is generally understandable. However, the same ideas are repeated with “weight ratio” and “weight rate,” and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “nearcoming over weight ratio,” “at lower side” and “above mentioned nation.” “Rised” is also an incorrect word form, while “over weight” should be written as one word when used as a noun or adjective. Choose standard chart language and use it precisely: describe the “proportion of people who were overweight,” and distinguish between a gradual increase, a fluctuation and a sharp rise. This would make the limited range more effective and reduce reader effort.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “but,” but complex constructions are often faulty and errors recur. For example, “Between 1970 and 1980, weight ratio of USA can be seen” has an awkward passive structure and missing articles; “it rised with time” has an incorrect verb form; and “between time period.however” lacks appropriate sentence punctuation. Tense and sentence boundaries are not consistently controlled, and the final clause beginning “overall all other countries” is incomplete. Use direct subject–verb sentences, such as “The US rate fell slightly before rising,” and check articles, verb forms, punctuation and sentence completion. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make your comparisons easier to follow.
