Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You take a position in favour of science improving people’s lives, and your examples about communication and shopping are relevant to the question. However, the response addresses the topic only partially: it mainly lists conveniences and does not explain why improving lives should be science’s most important aim, or consider other possible aims. The examples are also brief; for instance, the reference to mobile phones and communication is not developed with a specific situation or explanation of its impact. The response is 75 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons and support your position. To strengthen this criterion, state your degree of agreement clearly and develop two distinct reasons with specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
Your response has a basic overall structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas about communication and shopping are grouped into separate paragraphs, which gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and the conclusion largely repeats points already made rather than drawing them together. Linking is also repetitive: several sentences begin with “The science” or “Peoples,” while the example introduced by “For example” is difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded together. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its supporting point, and vary references to avoid repetition. A more deliberate sequence—from your position, to reasons and evidence, to a concise conclusion—would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of topic-related words, including “communication,” “work,” “shopping” and “science,” so the general subject is usually recognisable. However, vocabulary is basic and highly repetitive, and several inaccurate word choices or spellings strain understanding. Examples include “workful,” “cummunication skils,” “difficulies” and “advance”; phrases such as “science hours work covert into minutes” are also unclear. Repeated use of “peoples” and “perform main role” limits precision. Build a more varied vocabulary for describing benefits and outcomes, and check spelling and natural word combinations. For example, explain that technology “saves time” or “makes communication more accessible,” rather than relying on repeated general claims about science’s role.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. Frequent errors in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence construction sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The science is perform very important role” has an incorrect verb pattern and missing article, while “The science perform main role” also has subject–verb agreement and article problems. The opening sentence combines several ideas without a clear grammatical structure, and the final sentence is similarly difficult to parse. Try building accurate simple sentences first, then add a few controlled complex sentences using “because,” “which” or “as a result.” Check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct agreement, and appropriate articles.
