Student answer (Band 5.5)

The primary goal of scientific research is to enhance people's lives. While I largely agree with this view, I believe that scientific research also has other important purposes.

One of the significant reasons is rise the diseases around the world. Science has the power to introduce the new medicines for the criticaly ill patients to treat them . Scientist should conduct research to fight againt disease to help infected patients to recover. For example, cientists rapidly developed vaccines for COVID-19, which saved millions of lives. Moreover, most peope facing the difficulty to getting the pure water these days. Most of the dams are contaminated and people enable to get the pure water. Scienties should installed the filters to purify the water. It makes helps the people for get the pure water . In addition , modern technolgy is another generation of science has the great impact on people lives. People can do task more easily and quickly using the modern technolgy. For instance, Automatic washing machine makes the job easier to washing the clothes and also save the time.

On the other hand, improving the people lives is not only the important aim. Scientists should have goal to protect the environment while conducting research. When scientist conducted the research , they do alot of experiment with different type of chemicals that harm the enviroment and cause of air polution. Scientist should choose the safe place to avoid the harmful chemical to exploid into the enviornment while they are testing the procedures. For example , areas which have no population, far from the living areas is suitable for harmful experiments.

In conclusion, scientists should not only have aim to protect the people's life But also need make sure that appropriate enviroment for conducting the research. It is because the better environment makes the people life better.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you largely agree that science should improve people’s lives, while recognising environmental protection as another important aim. You support this with relevant examples, including COVID-19 vaccines, water purification and washing machines, and you address the opposing consideration in a separate paragraph. This covers the task, but some ideas are less fully explained than others. The water-purification point, for instance, moves from contaminated dams to installing filters without clarifying who should install them or how this research would help. The environmental paragraph also focuses mainly on where experiments should take place rather than explaining how science can protect the environment more broadly. Develop each example with a clearer link to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting your view, a contrasting paragraph and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and several ideas are crowded into the first body paragraph. The shift from disease to clean water and then technology would be easier to follow if each point had clearer separation and development. Some references are also unclear, such as “It makes helps the people,” which makes the connection to the previous sentence difficult to track. Use topic sentences and more precise referencing to make the progression between claims and examples smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “vaccines,” “contaminated,” “purify,” “environment” and “conducting research,” and your examples make the main ideas understandable. However, the range and control are limited by repeated basic wording such as “people,” “science” and “research,” as well as noticeable spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include “criticaly,” “Scienties,” “technolgy” and “enviornment.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “rise the diseases” and “makes the job easier to washing the clothes.” These issues sometimes make the reader pause. Build a more precise range of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; the suggestions below offer practical alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“While I largely agree…”) and a relative clause in the vaccine example (“which saved millions of lives”). The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation are common enough to affect clarity. For example, “Scientist should conduct research” needs a plural subject or an article, while “Scienties should installed the filters” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence “It makes helps the people for get the pure water” also combines structures incorrectly. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and checking each sentence for one clear main clause; review punctuation and spacing as well.
