Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that the mains point for science is to improve people's lives, in the present days we never had such an advanced science field, and Human being never discovered so much, so fast. With that being said, I agree with this statement. This essay will discuss that the most important point of science is to improve people's lives.

In 1492, Portugal left Europe going to the unknow, furthermore they discored a land in South America, nowadays, we know as Brazil; however this trip took almost 2 full months, depending a lot in the weather. In contrast to the present days, that with a plane the same route by air would take us just under 15 hours. Along with, various motor transportations, science made the world smaller for us, things that would take days, months even years, now take just minutes.

Living until 85 years old would be something incredible in a recent past. Whereas, today is common for elderly to go past the 90 year mark, and a lot of that is because of the development of our medical field, science created solutions for problems that where certainty of death. For instance, scurvy would be one of the most deadliest deases; nonetheless, the advacament of science made this problem almost extinct in the recent society. In my experience, as someone that survive the COVID pandemic the devolopment of vaccines and tests, was one of the reasons why society didnt went trough something like europe did wiht the black plague.

To conclude, science will always walk side by side with the evolution of The Human being, and one of the reasons for that is because science improve our lifes in various different ways. For this reason I agree with that statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that science should primarily improve people’s lives. The examples about faster travel, medical advances, and COVID vaccines are relevant and give the response a sound basis. The travel comparison illustrates convenience well, while the medical paragraph connects more directly to health and survival. However, some claims need clearer explanation or more careful support: the historical voyage example is not clearly linked to science’s most important aim, and the comparison with the Black Plague is asserted rather than explained. To strengthen the response, develop each example by showing specifically how it improves people’s lives, and briefly acknowledge another possible aim of science before explaining why human benefit should take priority. This would make the argument more fully developed and balanced.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present examples, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression from travel to medicine is logical, and phrases such as “In contrast” and “For instance” help signal relationships between ideas. Some linking, however, feels mechanical or does not express the intended relationship accurately. For example, “Along with” does not smoothly connect the transport point, while “Whereas” begins a comparison without a complete contrasting clause. The long opening sentence also joins several ideas with commas, making the progression harder to follow. Use fewer, more precise transitions and make the relationship between each example and your main claim explicit. Clearer sentence boundaries and references would make the organisation more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “development of our medical field,” “vaccines,” and “transportations,” and you attempt some less common expressions such as “walk side by side.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: “mains point,” “unknow,” “discored,” “deases,” and “advacament” are examples. Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “science made the world smaller for us” and “problems that where certainty of death.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than more elaborate wording, and proofread spelling carefully. Building a reliable set of topic-specific phrases for scientific progress, public health, and quality of life would improve precision and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast and cause-and-effect structures, as in “In contrast to the present days…” and “one of the reasons why…”. This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, several sentences contain errors in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation. For example, the opening joins independent ideas with commas, “science improve our lifes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “society didnt went” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “In contrast to the present days” is also incomplete as written. Work on forming complete clauses, checking tense and agreement, and using apostrophes and sentence boundaries consistently. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
