The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The most significant focus of science should be to enhance the lives of people. I totally agree with the statment because it is the basic role of science.

It is due to fact that with the development in technology with help of science many new inventions are taking place. And many of them are very valuable like Ai. Ai should assist humanity all fields and it is doing well but it should not be allowed to replace humans. Because it will get worse with the increase in time and people will be totally jobless. So, vital focus of science is to help humanity not to destroy it.

As science is helping us in the field of medicine and developing new tools for surgery and other poposes is praise worthy.

It has revolutionised the humanity in the field of transport. Now you can travell thoughout the globe with any hesiation.

It has provided you many social platforms through by use of internet. Now you can peek into any part of world at any time.

By using tools of science you can get awarenes about the future updates of weather.

All above examples are mentioned to indicate the imporatnce of science in our lives but those are only few.

Science has done amazing for all of us throughout. But there are some future concerns about science. Could it will keep going with same intensty or its goals will change with time. But basic role should always be for the betterment of human life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you totally agree that science should improve people’s lives, and you return to this idea in the conclusion. You support it with relevant examples from medicine, transport, communication and weather forecasting, so the response addresses the topic. However, several points are listed rather than explained. For instance, you mention AI and the risk of people becoming jobless, but do not show how this concern affects your argument about science’s main aim. The examples about travel and social platforms could also be developed by explaining their specific benefits. To strengthen the response, build each main point with a clear explanation and a concrete example, and clarify how concerns about harmful uses fit your overall position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable overall shape: it states a position, gives examples, and ends by restating the principle that science should benefit humanity. The examples are generally relevant, and phrases such as “As science is helping us” and “All above examples” signal connections between ideas. However, progression within the body is uneven: the discussion moves quickly from AI to medicine, transport, social media and weather without grouping or explaining these points. Some linking is mechanical, and the opening “It is due to fact” does not clearly connect the claim to its reason. Use separate paragraphs for distinct arguments, then connect each example to the central claim with clear explanation and more precise referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “inventions,” “humanity,” “medicine,” “surgery,” “transport” and “social platforms.” These terms make your main subject clear, and phrases such as “betterment of human life” show an attempt to use more formal language. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce accuracy, including “statment,” “poposes,” “travell,” and “with any hesiation.” Some wording is also vague, such as “It has done amazing,” while “peek into any part of world” is informal and not quite suitable for this essay. Aim for accurate collocations and more precise descriptions of the benefits and risks of scientific developments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “if it will keep going” and a contrast between helping and destroying humanity. The main message is usually understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “It is due to fact that with the development in technology with help of science many new inventions are taking place” has an unclear structure and missing articles. The sentence beginning “Because it will get worse” is a fragment, and “Could it will keep going” combines question forms incorrectly. Review article use, clause construction, and verb forms, and check punctuation around sentence boundaries. Building accurate, complete sentences before adding complexity will make your reasoning easier to follow.
