Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that science should improve people’s lives. You support this with two relevant areas—transport and communication, followed by medicine—and the examples of aeroplanes, satellites and disease treatment help address the question. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the satellite example says the world is connected, but does not show in detail how this benefit supports your argument about science’s most important aim. The medical discussion is more developed, although the historical comparison is unclear and could be made more precise. To strengthen the response, explain why improving lives should take priority over other possible aims of science, and develop each example with a clear link to that position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present different benefits, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from everyday technology to medical advances is easy to follow, and phrases such as “To give an example” and “To conclude” signal the stages of your argument. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “as” and “To give an example/instance.” Some references are also unclear: “such scientific advancements” could refer to several different medical developments, and the satellite sentence’s connection to the main claim is not fully explicit. Use a wider range of transitions and make the relationship between each example and your argument clearer. This would make the organisation feel more deliberate and less dependent on repeated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “scientific discoveries,” “satellites,” “medical sector,” “artificial heart transplant” and “survival rate.” These terms allow you to discuss both technology and healthcare, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “enhance the individual's lives,” “livelihood easier,” “connected with a string of such information,” and “to much extend.” There are also spelling errors, including “tuberclosis,” which reduce precision. Repetition of “lives,” “scientific” and “advancements” limits variety. Aim for more natural academic combinations and check spelling; for example, describe technology as “improving quality of life” and communication networks as “connecting people worldwide.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and relative clauses such as “which previously took days or months.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas remain understandable. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries affect accuracy. Examples include “the entire world in connected,” “The other way science have improved,” and “with the help of scientific technology artificial heart transplant ratio has increased.” The sentence beginning “with the help” also starts with a lowercase letter after a full stop. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and punctuate long sentences carefully. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
