Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is widely believed that "Science teaches us that impossible is often just undiscovered". Considering this, we can agree that science has definitely improved people's lives. For instance, consider the life that our ancestors lived before all the tremendous inventions we have today. Their lives were so basic that involves a lot of manual work. Even the basic tasks we do today required a lot more human necessity back then.

Another example that illustrates hard work is household chores. Dish washing, cooking, laundry and many more. All these activities were once done manually which consumed a lot more time and energy. However, today we have certain machines that are particularly designed to perform these tasks which makes human life way more optimized.

As society, especially women are more benefited as the household chores were pre-dominantly done by them. Science has always found a better solution for all the issues. A key advantage of the innovations so far is that we get more time which can be spent to do other constructive work that increases productivity. But its people's responsibility to use them in a positive way.

Misusing science can also affect people's life. Science and innovations brings impulsive response from teenagers which improves their creativity and ideas but also might encourage them to be detrimental. Notably we have machines that does all our everyday activities, but the time we save from that are not fully used constructively instead it makes the teenagers lazy and leave them demotivated to any activities.

In summary, we should always welcome innovations that aims to improve science, at the same its individual's responsibility to manage time and make use of the innovations productively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the examples regarding household chores are relevant, the discussion on the negative impact of science on teenagers is a bit tangential and lacks a strong link back to the core argument about the 'aim' of science. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your thesis statement. The conclusion is clear, but the overall argument could be strengthened by exploring the 'extent' of your agreement more deeply, perhaps by acknowledging counter-arguments more formally.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For instance', 'However', and 'In summary', to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some cohesive links feel a bit mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas between sentences is smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be better connected to the preceding ones to improve the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'tremendous inventions', 'optimized', and 'pre-dominantly'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'human necessity' instead of 'human effort' or 'manual labor'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'brings impulsive response' (should be 'brings about' or 'triggers'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid repetitive phrasing and aim for more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('machines that does', 'innovations that aims') and awkward phrasing ('the time we save from that are not fully used'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly clunky. To improve, focus on ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree and practice using more complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses or relative clauses, with greater accuracy. Proofreading for these common errors will help you achieve a higher score.
