Student answer (Band 6.0)
Scientific research may serve many purposes ranging from expanding human knowledge to exploring the universe.Nevertheless, I support the view that it's ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for mankind by providing better healthcare, dealing environmental challenges and improving human safety measures in different contexts.
First of all most scientific developments are largely focused on improving people's quality of life by all possible means. Invention of home appliances like refrigerators, vehicles such as cars, means of communication like mobile phones and the internet are major examples. Scientific inventions make life convenient and save time and effort. For example nowadays people can air travel thousands of mile because of aeroplanes.
More importantly, science has played a crucial role in improving life expectancy by improving overall health outcomes. Advances in healthcare have made it easier to early diagnose and treatment severe diseases. Develo

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 143 words. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('Develo'). Because the response is unfinished, the ideas are not fully developed, and the argument lacks a conclusion. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the lack of length and the failure to complete the task prevent a higher score. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, two or three well-developed body paragraphs with specific examples, and a clear concluding summary. You must also manage your time to ensure you reach the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay shows a basic attempt at logical organization. You use transition signals like 'First of all' and 'More importantly' to introduce new points, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. However, because the text is incomplete, the overall progression is cut short. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is missing entirely. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast') and ensure that every paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details and a concluding sentence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the topic, such as 'scientific research', 'life expectancy', and 'healthcare'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'dealing environmental challenges' (should be 'dealing with environmental challenges'). The abrupt ending limits the opportunity to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating basic words like 'improving' or 'scientific'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Scientific research may serve many purposes ranging from...' and 'Invention of home appliances... are major examples.' There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'it's ultimate goal' (should be 'its') and 'early diagnose and treatment' (should be 'early diagnosis and treatment'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there is a missing space after the period in the first paragraph. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of possessive pronouns.
