Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of science improving lives. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you provide examples like transportation and smartphones, the explanations remain somewhat superficial and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'extent' of your agreement by discussing potential counter-arguments or exploring the societal impact of science in greater depth. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'To begin with' and 'Additionally' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs are sometimes abrupt. There are also issues with referencing; for instance, 'it' is used frequently without a clear antecedent, making some sentences difficult to follow. Improving the flow between ideas and using a wider variety of linking words would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'easy', and 'things', and there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'excessive benefits of life' or 'movements of illegal activates'. Some phrases are awkward, which occasionally hinders the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to science and technology and try to use more precise adjectives and nouns to convey your ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people uses'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'in todays due to technology advancement'). While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your point, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
