Student answer (Band 7.0)
During the las few decades, science underwent major developments and improvements across multiple of fields. These changes impacted fundamentally societies and the humans as a whole. While some argue that science should be mainly focused on the well being of humans others see this restriction as unnecessary and limiting to the evolvement of numerous other benefiting fields.
As far as I am concerned, I truly believe that the advantages on keeping the focus of science more broad outweigh the upsides on restricting it to human's lives.
In fact, it is undeniable that science when focused on humans improved greatly their standards of living. For instance, science helped humans cure multiple centuries withstanding viruses and health hazards . Hence, freeing them from life threatening diseases. Furthermore, it increased the overall span of life of people across the world by making resources more accessible. Water for example has become a granted resource for most of the world's population and such achievement would not have been possible without science development.
However, considering only this perspective may overlook other important factors and lead to an incomplete understanding of the broader issue. As a matter of fact, science when used for other means lead to life changing advancements. Mathematical and physical understanding of our world for instance substantially changed our view of the world. Leading to major advancement in other fields and the creation of technologies that would never have been thought to be possible to reach few decades ago. Thus, not changing only our scientifical knowledge but at the same time leading to serious improvements of people's lives. Thus achieving both goals at the same time.
To conclude, even though focusing science solely on the improvement of human's lives lead to undoubtable benefits. Unrestricting it showed to be the better approach as it not only achieved theoretical revolutions and advancement but at the same time impacted humanity in the positive way. An even greater improvement could be reached if human's scientific understanding keeps soaring at today's pace.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You acknowledge the benefits of science for human life while arguing that a broader scope is ultimately more beneficial. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, though some points, such as the mention of 'mathematical and physical understanding,' could be more explicitly linked back to the prompt's core question to strengthen the argument. Overall, you have maintained a consistent position throughout the essay, which satisfies the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In fact,' 'Furthermore,' 'However,' and 'To conclude' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is generally clear, there are some minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the repetitive use of 'Thus' at the start of consecutive sentences in the third paragraph. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences would help elevate this score further.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'undeniable,' 'life-threatening,' and 'theoretical revolutions.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'las few decades' (last), 'multiple of fields' (multiple fields), and 'scientifical knowledge' (scientific knowledge). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band. Expanding your range of academic collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you show control over basic grammar, there are frequent errors in articles ('the humans,' 'the well being'), pluralization ('human's lives' should be 'humans' lives'), and sentence fragments ('Leading to major advancement...'). Some sentences are slightly awkward due to these grammatical slips. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the essay. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of definite and indefinite articles.
