Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of science improving lives. The ideas are relevant, covering medical, agricultural, and technological advancements. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of 'physics, biology and mathematics' is a list rather than a developed argument. The counter-argument regarding negative aspects is introduced but lacks depth, as it is not fully integrated into the overall position. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples with more specific evidence or logical reasoning rather than listing general benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion' to link sections. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph. Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack clear logical connectors, making the flow feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'vaccinations', 'antibiotics', and 'irrigation'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'facilitate the way of people living' instead of 'improve the quality of life', and 'produce the disease resistant crops' instead of 'produce disease-resistant crops'. There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'information's' (which is uncountable). To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that you use academic vocabulary in the correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'the individual face' should be 'individuals face', and 'it is impossible to handle pandemic' requires an article. There are also issues with sentence boundaries, such as comma splices where full stops are needed. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
