Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but fails to maintain a clear focus on the topic of 'science'. The essay frequently drifts into a discussion about 'education' and 'study' rather than the role of scientific advancement. While a position is stated, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack logical connection to the specific question of whether science should aim to improve lives. The examples provided, such as the frog experiment or the behavior of educated people, are not effectively linked to the core argument, making the response appear tangential in several places. To improve, ensure that every paragraph directly supports the prompt's specific focus on science.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often confusing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance' and 'In conclusion', but they are frequently applied incorrectly or in a mechanical way that does not improve the flow of the argument. For example, the transition 'On the other hand' is used to contrast educated and non-educated people, but this does not logically follow the previous point. Referencing is often unclear, and the relationship between sentences is frequently disjointed, which forces the reader to work hard to follow the writer's train of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic words like 'study', 'people', and 'important'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'manifest people's lives' (which is semantically incorrect) and 'experiment the courses'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas accurately. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to science and technology, and practice using collocations correctly. The current level of vocabulary is just enough to convey basic meaning but lacks the precision required for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the non educated person talk'), article usage ('the the manager'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'the students will not be learn the data'). Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. The writing relies heavily on simple, repetitive sentence patterns. To improve, you must focus on basic sentence construction, specifically verb tenses and the correct use of auxiliary verbs, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
