Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this technological era, science has been drastically change time to time. Science not only focus on universe or planets but also paying a lot of attention towards human life. I agree with the statement that the main purpose of the science ought to be saving lives of humans. Why? Because people are dying with numerous diseases that are unknown also to improve medical field.

On the one hand, science improving its field everyday related to human lives. There are a number of unpredictable and unsolved or mysterious medical issues that has not been resolved. In my point of view, science needs to be focused on human lives because the main concern is cancer that not been solved. So, doctor or scientists should pay attention to get a proper and healthy solution for it, like medicines.

On the other hand, without humans Earth not going to be survive. There are plenty of children's that are fighting with the illness for survival. Government should provide funds more to hospitals and other medical institutions. to improve the medical area. However, this will help the doctors to aim more to improve the human life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 191 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and repetitive. While you clearly state your position in the introduction, the supporting arguments are underdeveloped. For instance, you mention cancer and medical funding but do not explain how these relate to the broader scope of science beyond medicine. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. While you use transition signals like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. Some sentences, such as 'Why? Because people are dying...', are too informal and fragmented. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'science has been drastically change' (should be 'has changed') and 'Earth not going to be survive' (should be 'will not survive'). You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'technological era' and 'medical institutions', but the overall range is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and synonyms will help you convey your points more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('science not only focus'), tense usage ('has not been resolved' for plural 'issues'), and sentence structure ('There are plenty of children's that are fighting'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in basic syntax. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and attempting more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
