Student answer (Band 6.5)

Science plays an important role in the life of human beings, just to make sure that everyone should improve more in their life styles and live healthy life. As a human being, I agree with the statement that aim of science should be to improve individuals lives.

There are multiple positive aspect of science that saves the life of peoples of different areas. In the past years, there were a disease named COVID, derived from Corona, if anyone is in this illness, no one is allowed to even goes near that ill body, however it is enough dangerous that anyone even goes near to that body will face the same sickness. At that time, science came into the ground and start preparing the antibiotics for the peoples of different areas, after some time the pharmaceutical experiment got success and fortunately everyone beat that sickness.

On the other hand, some scientists are trying to understand the fundamentals of solar system for the sake of human civilization, they are trying to move to the other planets of solar system just to understand how the things are working and their main motive is to build another living area other than the Earth so that the population can be controlled easily. Neil Armstrong was the first astronaut that lands on moon and walk on the moon surface.

To conclude, while science plays an crucial impact in the lives of every human, animal and plants so we should enhance their aim by believing on the knowledge that science have gave to the human beings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The example regarding COVID-19 is relevant, though the description of the scientific process is simplistic and contains factual inaccuracies (e.g., calling COVID-19 an 'antibiotic' target). The second body paragraph regarding space exploration is relevant but lacks a strong connection to the core argument of 'improving people's lives' until the final sentence. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations of how scientific aims balance immediate human needs versus long-term progress. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'science came into the ground' or 'on the other hand' used to introduce a topic that is not strictly a counter-argument. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where 'their aim' refers back to science in a vague way. While the overall structure is coherent, the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'science came into the ground', 'enough dangerous', and 'pharmaceutical experiment got success'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a limited range of academic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic terminology, such as 'medical breakthroughs' instead of 'pharmaceutical experiment' or 'mitigate' instead of 'beat'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'science have gave'), article usage (e.g., 'the fundamentals of solar system'), and tense consistency (e.g., 'Neil Armstrong was the first astronaut that lands'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and the correct use of articles, as these are recurring issues that affect the overall accuracy of your writing.
