Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives. The position is clear from the introduction, and the main ideas—health and environmental/theoretical research—are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the transition between health and environmental science is abrupt, and the explanation of how space exploration relates to the prompt's core theme of 'improving lives' could be more explicitly linked. While the task is addressed, the supporting arguments lack depth and specific detail, keeping the response at a Band 6 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the phrase 'As science is also evolving in environmental conversation' is grammatically disjointed, and the use of 'which could be that a part of daily life' creates confusion. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by awkward sentence structures and missing transitions, which affects the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'science involuemnt' (involvement), 'maximal living' (which is unclear), and 'environmental conversation' (likely meant 'conservation'). While the student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, the inaccuracies sometimes impede the precision of the argument. The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but the lack of control over word forms and collocations prevents a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally make the text difficult to follow. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Science would not only supports'), sentence fragments (e.g., 'As the most crucial aim...'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. The student needs to focus on sentence boundaries and ensuring that complex structures are formed correctly.
