Student answer (Band 6.5)

Since the last century science has been playing a major role in the lives of human beings. The basic goal of the science ought be to make developments and do inventions which improve the quality of people's lives. I am strongly agree with this statement.

Firstly, science should focus on healthcare and medical sector. People from all around the globe are suffering from different diseases which are untreatable. Thousands of cancer patients die annually. It is due to the lack or permanent medical of solution of this illness. So they should do experiments in the labs for the formation of medicines to treat these diseases. For instance, my father is an asthma patient . I have to saw him struggling with this disease. But doctors tell us that there is not any medicine which can permanently treat this illness. Therefore, it necessary that the scientists took these matters under consideration.

Secondly, there are also many public issues which need to be solved. Traffic is a rising public problem . It wastes time and money of people. Governments also spend finances on infrastructures to tackle this problem. It also contributes in air pollution by emitting harmful gases. Scientists should take steps to mitigate this issue using technology and innovations . There are also several environmental issues like global warming and water pollution. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant arguments. You focus on healthcare and public infrastructure as key areas where science should intervene. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on traffic and environmental issues is a bit rushed, and the link between these problems and the 'improvement of lives' could be more explicitly articulated. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the 'why' and 'how' of your arguments, providing more depth rather than listing multiple issues. Your position is consistent throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'For instance', and 'Therefore' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the discussion of medical issues and public infrastructure is abrupt. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between ideas is more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the concluding paragraph is quite brief and could better summarize the main points to provide a stronger sense of closure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mitigate', 'innovations', 'irreversible damage', and 'aquatic animals'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'do inventions' (instead of 'make inventions') and 'permanent medical of solution' (which is grammatically awkward). There is also some repetition of basic words. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding word-choice errors. Expanding your range to include more academic or topic-specific vocabulary would also be beneficial for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include 'I am strongly agree' (should be 'I strongly agree'), 'I have to saw him' (should be 'I have seen him'), and 'it necessary that' (missing 'is'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and subject-verb consistency.
