Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention technology and medicine, the arguments remain at a general level without deep exploration of the 'extent' of your agreement. For example, you briefly mention that science has pros and cons, but you do not fully explore the potential ethical dilemmas or alternative aims of science (such as pure knowledge or environmental preservation). To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph provides a more detailed analysis and a clear, sustained position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often interrupted by incorrect punctuation. You frequently use semicolons incorrectly, such as in 'life as; it determines' and 'elucidate; what should'. These mechanical errors disrupt the logical progression of your ideas. While you use some cohesive devices like 'For instance' and 'To conclude', the overall structure feels a bit repetitive. Improving the use of transition words and ensuring punctuation follows standard rules would significantly enhance the readability and logical flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'pivotal', 'inevitable', and 'elucidate'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and collocation errors, such as 'A case at the point is' (should be 'A case in point') and 'dubious point regarding it'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using less common lexical items more naturally within the context of your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation, particularly the misuse of semicolons, which appear throughout the text. Additionally, there are minor grammatical slips, such as 'every application, appliance and every technology is' (subject-verb agreement/article usage) and 'the main aim should be advantageous for quality of lives' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Focus on mastering basic sentence punctuation and ensuring subject-verb agreement.
