Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that science should improve lives, citing technology and medical care as examples. However, the development is somewhat superficial. The introduction mentions agreeing 'at few extent' but fails to clarify what that means or provide a balanced view, making the position slightly unclear. The ideas are relevant but rely on simple examples like 'mobile phones' and 'racing bikes', which lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced arguments and ensure your position is consistently clear throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Embarking upon the causes' and 'To epitome'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences can feel disjointed. While there is a logical progression, the transitions between ideas could be smoother and more varied. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context will help improve the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'crucial job' instead of 'crucial role' and 'science innovations makes people life easier' (grammatical error aside, 'innovations' is used repetitively). The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more sophisticated synonyms for common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('science innovations makes', 'inventions saves'), missing articles ('in modern era'), and awkward phrasing ('I also agree at few extent'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
