Student answer (Band 5.0)

I agree with this statement because science is about human life and biology science should be used for making human life better and more easier such as medicines hospitals and anything that has advantage for humans.

There is alot of things in this life that scienes hasn't discovered yet such as cure for cancer for example obviously there will be alot of more research and more money will get spend on these researchers to find the cure for cancer because till now with the technology we have we still haven't found the cure for cancer millions of people who is suffering from cancer because till this date there is no cure for it which makes it that we need to use science for finding cure for cancer or any other diseases that are not cureable. In the other hand there are many companies or people who use science for money where they make virsues and diseases or poisones so that they only have the cure for it and they can sell it which they can make millions of dollars from it these people they dont care about human lifes they only care about themselves and money and power where they want to hold all the power. On the other hand there are companies that sells medicines and cure for illnes they always try to find a way where they can steal money from their customers such as increasing the prices of the medicines and make them suffer to pay for that medicine speically if that medicine is very rare and you cant find another company making it. Science should be made to improve human life and makes it better, easier not suffer it should be for one purpose only which is how we can make human life better and how we make it easier for humans not that they use it for making diseases or virsues that people suffer from it and when they want to find cure for it they will need to pay alot of money just to get the cure.

In summary science should only be made for making human life easier and improve people life and it should only be made for that purpose only not for people or compaines who use science for power, money and greed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that science should focus on improving human life. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you mention medical research and the unethical use of science by corporations, the arguments lack depth and specific examples. The essay tends to focus heavily on the negative aspects of pharmaceutical companies rather than exploring the broader scope of how science improves lives. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than circling back to the same argument about greed and money.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is hindered by a lack of effective cohesive devices. Many sentences are long and run-on, making it difficult to follow the logical progression of your argument. You rely heavily on repetitive phrasing like 'on the other hand' and 'for example' without using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'nevertheless'). Additionally, the lack of punctuation, particularly full stops, makes the text feel like a series of loosely connected clauses rather than a structured academic argument. Improving sentence boundaries would significantly enhance readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use simple terms like 'good', 'bad', 'money', and 'people'. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'virsues' (viruses), 'poisones' (poisons), and 'cureable' (curable). To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary related to the topic of science and ethics. For instance, instead of saying 'make human life better', you could use 'enhance the quality of human existence'. Expanding your range of collocations will help you convey your ideas with more precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple and compound sentences. There is a significant lack of punctuation, which leads to run-on sentences that obscure your meaning. For example, the second paragraph is essentially one long, unpunctuated block of text. You also have recurring errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'millions of people who is suffering' (should be 'are suffering') and 'companies that sells' (should be 'sell'). To improve, focus on using full stops to separate independent clauses and practice using complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, to demonstrate greater control.
