Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the most important part of science should be to improve individuals life. I partially agree with the given statement that with the help of science we can efficiently live, but it also depends upon us that how we live our life.

To commence with, science improves our life by helping us to understand the world and solve problems. It not only enhances development in medical facilities, vaccines, and treatment, but also it gives a chance to live longer and happy life through preventing diseases and illnesses. For example, with the help of science people today get cure of dangerous health problems, such as cancer, thyroid and migraine. As a result, science can provide a better lifestyle in future, if people still suffer from various disease.

On the other hand, it is not necessary that science only prevent. It depends upon humans that how they spend their lives. Moreover, it's people responsibility to take care of themselves rather than relying on science. They should consume healthy meals, and they should have health consciousness. For example, people who exercise and consume healthy food, they are less able to get health problems than others who don't follow. As a result, it improves their confidence, and they can stay fit.

In conclusion, science can really improves people lives through healthcare advancements, but it also depends upon human how they spent their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you present a clear position, the arguments remain somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on personal responsibility is relevant but lacks depth and specific examples that would fully explore the 'extent' of the agreement. The conclusion is also quite brief. To improve, ensure you expand on your points with more detailed explanations and examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive analysis of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall structure feels slightly underdeveloped due to the brevity of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'improve individuals life' (should be 'individuals' lives') and 'get cure of' (should be 'are cured of'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary and demonstrate a better grasp of collocations and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'science can really improves' (should be 'improve'), 'it depends upon human' (should be 'humans'), and 'less able to get health problems' (should be 'less likely to develop'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of these grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and pluralization will help improve your accuracy.
