Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that science should improve lives and create technology, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and repetitive. For instance, the example regarding Saudi Arabia is vague and lacks sufficient detail to support your point effectively. To reach a higher band, you need to extend your ideas with more specific, logical explanations and concrete examples that directly relate to the core of the prompt. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by mechanical or repetitive transitions. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all' and 'Secondly', but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. For example, the transition between the importance of science in schools and the development of new technology is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the phrase 'putting them to make things', where the pronoun 'them' lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help create a smoother, more coherent argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'make lives easier' and 'enhance lives'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'science did a lot of research' (science is a field, not an agent that performs research) and 'a years ago'. To improve, focus on using more academic vocabulary and precise collocations that demonstrate a better grasp of the topic, rather than relying on basic, high-frequency words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('most people believes'), article usage ('in humans life'), and punctuation errors, such as inconsistent spacing before commas. Furthermore, sentence construction is often fragmented or run-on, which affects the overall readability. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, ensuring correct subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for punctuation and article placement. Reducing these frequent errors is essential for moving to a higher band.
