Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving human lives. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like railways and water purification, the discussion regarding the negative aspects (space exploration) is underdeveloped and lacks a clear link to the central argument. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a fully developed final position. To improve, ensure each body paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that your arguments are fully explored rather than just mentioned. The position is clear, but the overall response feels rushed and lacks depth in the analysis of the 'extent' of your agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'For example', 'Additionally'). There are instances where the flow between sentences is disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition from positive to negative aspects feels abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence of the piece. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your ideas transition smoothly from one to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'modernization', 'important aspect', and 'positive side'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'demolished' when referring to rockets, and 'make human life more easier', which is grammatically incorrect. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations, and pay closer attention to word forms and standard usage patterns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'science is one the most important aspect' (missing article and pluralization), 'rockets and space crafts needs to be' (subject-verb agreement), and 'life life' (repetition). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
