Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you provide examples like the lightbulb and 5G technology, the discussion remains at a general level. The argument regarding environmental impact is relevant, but it lacks depth in explaining how this balances against the primary aim of improving lives. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced reasoning and ensure that your examples are fully integrated into a cohesive argument rather than just listed. The conclusion is present but could be more robust in summarizing the main points of your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the frequent use of 'for example' and 'and' to connect clauses makes the flow feel somewhat disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the benefits of science and the environmental drawbacks could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'nevertheless') would significantly enhance the logical flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'useful', 'easy', and 'good'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'scinentific', 'differnt', 'boundries', and 'benefitial', which indicate a need for more careful proofreading. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'technologies' and 'radiation', the overall lexical range is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling of academic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people cuts trees'), incorrect article usage, and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the use of hyphens. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence boundary control and subject-verb agreement will help improve your accuracy.
