Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving human lives. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples regarding medicine and technology, the argument remains quite general. The section on the 'study of the universe' is disconnected from the main thesis of improving human lives, making the overall position slightly less cohesive. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your central argument. The conclusion is clear, but the body paragraphs could benefit from more specific, real-world examples rather than broad statements about 'gadgets' or 'vitamins' to better demonstrate the extent of your agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Firstly', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraph regarding the study of the universe feels abrupt and lacks a clear link to the preceding arguments. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph logically builds upon the previous one would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'biodiversity', 'predictable', and 'complexities'. However, there are instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'living life', 'multi-natural', and 'social outgoing life'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more academic phrasing. Avoid repetitive structures and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic of scientific advancement to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the medicine industry'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'As far as it is concerned that science...' is grammatically incorrect and awkward. There are also issues with sentence fragments and run-on sentences. While these errors rarely impede the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining your use of complex sentence structures will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
