Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science, but the development is inconsistent. While you present a clear position, some arguments are under-developed. For example, the mention of 'private sectors' and 'weapon industries' is relevant but lacks sufficient explanation to fully support your stance on the government's role. The introduction is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear thesis statement, which affects the overall clarity of your position. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-supported idea that directly links back to the prompt's core question about the 'most important aim' of science.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical or disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting sentences with 'In science knowledge...' or 'To save the lives...'. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the conclusion is quite brief. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to create a smoother progression of ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'make individuals life better' and 'various matters'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'substandard individuals' (which is unclear in this context) and 'communication equipment's' (incorrect pluralisation). To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and ensure you are using words in their correct context. Focus on learning collocations rather than individual words to sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Scientist are'), incorrect punctuation (e.g., 'However there are...'), and sentence fragments (e.g., 'To save the lives of millions of individuals.'). The use of articles and pluralisation is also inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic errors like missing verbs and incorrect punctuation marks.
