Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives. However, the development is limited. While you mention medicine and communication, the ideas are presented as a list of examples rather than a cohesive argument. The position is clear, but the discussion lacks depth; for instance, you mention scientists like Edison and Einstein but do not explain how their work specifically relates to the 'most important aim' of science. To improve, focus on developing your arguments with more analytical detail rather than just listing historical inventions. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the points made.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive (e.g., 'In this modern era', 'In this modern age'). There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. For example, the transition between the discussion of scientists and the field of medicine is abrupt. Improving the flow by using a wider variety of transition signals (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in contrast') would significantly enhance the logical progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'great', 'famous', and 'very much'. There are also some spelling errors ('MEDECINE', 'ENIESTEIN', 'MACHENERIES') and awkward phrasing such as 'tension less' and 'count less'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to scientific advancement, and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('All inventions... is due to'), article usage ('the great invention of Thomas Edison'), and awkward sentence construction ('we are enable to communicate'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper spacing after periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb forms. The use of complex sentences is attempted, but they often contain errors that impede clarity.
