Student answer (Band 5.5)

From few years, science has dramatically changed the way people live. Therefore, according to some individuals, the most important goal of science should to make people's lives better. I strongly agree with this statement. This essay will discuss the reasons to strengthen my view.

To begin with, science has made human's lives way more easier than it was in past and the further development in the same direction could become more helpful to grow. Firstly, in transportation, science helped a lot to make motorbikes and cars to make transportation easy. Also, to cover longer distance science gave us air planes. Due to the increasing use of transportation vehicles. The world is facing air pollution. To mitigate the impact science could become most helpful.

On the other hand, to manage large amount of data more efficiently, science gave hard-drives and solid-state drives. which helped people to reduce the usage of papers. But now all the people are using computers and that is why the demand of data centers has increased which requires huge amount of water to make it cool. So, science research also can help to find better ways to cool it down. In this way, tesla is actively working to open their data center in space which could be the revolutionary for the entire world.

In conclusion, at present, individuals has become depended on technology which results in other problems. Those problems are very difficult for humans to handle. Therefore, I also believe that the most important aim of science should be to improve human's lives

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide examples like transportation and data storage, the link between these examples and the core argument—that science should prioritize improving lives—is occasionally tenuous. For instance, the discussion on Tesla's data centers in space is a bit tangential and lacks a clear connection to the broader goal of improving human life. To improve, ensure that every example directly supports your thesis statement and avoid introducing complex, unrelated technical details that distract from your main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions are abrupt. For example, the sentence 'But now all the people are using computers...' lacks a smooth connection to the preceding thought. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'the same direction' without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the essay read more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'mitigate', 'efficiently', and 'revolutionary'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'way more easier' (which is grammatically redundant) and 'human's lives' (the plural 'humans' lives' or 'human life' would be more appropriate). Some collocations are also slightly off, such as 'grow' in the context of scientific development. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural and contextually accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include article usage ('in past' should be 'in the past'), subject-verb agreement ('individuals has become' should be 'individuals have become'), and punctuation errors, such as starting a sentence with a fragment ('which helped people...'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article consistency.
