Student answer (Band 5.0)

Well, I think the aim of science should be improve peoples lives because through science life can be very easy and we got a new technology and I personally agree with the statement, and I will share my thoughts in further paragraphs.

Nowadays, people are using more and more technology and science in their daily household chores in which they can work easily without any chaos, and for example, in past, people have to book their tickets for train or aeroplane through manually, but nowadays they can book their flight tickets or any ticket from the usage of phones and technology.

Further more, there are lots of work that we did through the help of science in our daily routine. For example. we can clean our houses from baking soda, which also contain a science formula. And science made our lives so easy that we can easily use it in our daily house chores, and it can be more helpful to us that we can use science in our daily house works .

In conclusion, science is very helpful for us in our life because without science, we cannot survive in our life nowadays because we are too much addicted to it and it is helpful to us .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 209 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the arguments are repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the examples provided, such as booking tickets or using baking soda, are quite simplistic and do not fully explore the broader implications of science in society. To improve, you need to expand your arguments with more sophisticated reasoning and provide more substantial examples to reach the required length and depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is limited. You use some cohesive devices like 'Nowadays' and 'Further more', but the transitions between sentences are often mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is present, but the content within the paragraphs lacks logical flow, particularly in the second body paragraph where the focus on 'baking soda' feels disconnected from the broader theme of scientific advancement. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms such as 'easy', 'science', and 'helpful'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. For example, phrases like 'work easily without any chaos' and 'science formula' are imprecise. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'technological innovation', 'scientific breakthroughs', or 'societal welfare', and avoid repeating the same simple adjectives throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the aim of science should be improve peoples lives' (missing 'to' and possessive apostrophe) and 'people have to book their tickets... through manually' (incorrect preposition usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the misuse of periods in 'For example. we can...'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score.
