Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You acknowledge the importance of saving lives while broadening the scope to include convenience and quality of life. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention vaccines and smartphones, the explanation remains at a surface level. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed analysis or specific examples of how scientific progress balances these competing aims. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, and the initial stance is slightly ambiguous due to the phrase 'partically agree'. Ensure your position is stated clearly and consistently from the introduction to the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'In conclusion', to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally weak (e.g., 'these developments clearly shows'). Some transitions feel abrupt, and the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of the argument would benefit from more sophisticated signposting.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'antibiotics', 'surgical techniques', and 'vaccines'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'militry', 'importnt', 'madical', 'equipement', 'diesease', and 'contibute'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. Furthermore, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; you rely on basic descriptors like 'good' and 'important'. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and attempt to incorporate more precise, academic collocations to convey your points with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('these developments clearly shows'), article misuse ('in recent year'), and awkward phrasing ('With the fact that the most importnt aim of the science is...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and capitalisation (e.g., 'from technology to medical, It has been...'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
