Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing supporting arguments. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the second paragraph lists inventions like 'mobile phones' and 'cars' but lacks a deep explanation of how these specifically improve lives beyond general statements. The counter-argument in the fourth paragraph is brief and lacks specific examples, making the discussion feel a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced examples and ensure that the link between science and the improvement of human life is explored with greater depth and analytical rigor.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'On other hand' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition between discussing mobile phones and the internet in the second paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented, such as 'Most inventions such as mobile phones, cars, internet, computer and many more', which lacks a main verb and disrupts the logical flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'things' (implied through repetitive use of 'inventions' and 'devices'). There are also noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'people performs their task on their fingertips' (should be 'at their fingertips') and 'science always been used' (missing auxiliary verb). To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to scientific advancement and societal impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people performs'), missing articles ('in different country'), and tense inconsistencies ('science have used'). Some sentences are incomplete or poorly constructed, such as 'To illustrate this because of mobile phones people know about the latest update'. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
