Student answer (Band 6.0)

The main goal of science should be to make people's lives better. I completely agree with this view because science has invented so many things which people have never imagined. It has changed a world from stone-age to today's modern world. Like, the development in technology has made people connect from any part of the world. Also, the establishment of different development activities like road construction, hospitals and schools provide long term benefits.

Firstly, the development of science makes people closer with it's invention like mobile phone. People feel like they are talking with each other virtually, They don't have to travel longer distance to talk to them. Most of the people nowadays are in abroad and these mobile phones help people share their feelings. Furthermore, we know different countries who are more powerful economically because of these inventions like, USA, Australia etc.

Secondly, with the development in sector like hospitals and schools, people are getting quality education and services. The rural areas now has been changed into urban with different facilities. In addition to this, people can get access to anything because of good transportation which is also one of the advantages of science.

Along with this, development in science makes the country independent. For example, there are still some place in the world where people are still living the miserable life. They have to travel almost two or three hours to get to schools and hospitals. People are still uneducated and unaware about the importance of development. Due to this, the country is facing problems such as illiteracy, unemployment which directly affect country in long run.

In conclusion, with the development of science, life of people also need to be changed. I strongly believe that the most important target of science is to uplift people's lives so that they can contribution to nation later on.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention mobile phones and infrastructure, the arguments lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the paragraph regarding rural areas and illiteracy is somewhat disconnected from the main argument about science's primary aim. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point directly links back to the core thesis and provides a more detailed explanation of how science specifically improves lives, rather than just listing general developments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition into the fourth paragraph regarding rural life. Referencing is generally clear, but the internal structure of some paragraphs could be improved to ensure a smoother transition between the general statement and the supporting evidence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'infrastructure', 'economically', and 'unemployment'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary (e.g., 'good', 'different', 'things'). There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'changed a world from stone-age' and 'people are in abroad'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the development in sector', 'the country is facing problems'), subject-verb agreement ('The rural areas now has been changed'), and prepositions. Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the comma splice in 'virtually, They don't have to'. To achieve a higher score, focus on reducing these recurring errors and increasing the variety of complex sentence forms, ensuring that your grammar remains accurate even when attempting more sophisticated structures.
