IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I largely agree that improving people's lives should be the primary focus of scientific development.
The primary reason for my view is that science has a major contribution in the advancement of medicine and healthcare. This is becuase of latest machines equipped with intelligence make the treatment more reliable and efficient. In addition, more effective medicines are developed that can be more effective against dangerous diseases like cancer, t.b. As a result, now the people have to worried less about the reliability of treatment. For exmaple, during corona virus mutiple vaccines were developed in a short time to over come the deadly virus. This was only possible due to science which saved millions of lives around the world.
Another important reason is that technology is improving everyday life. This is because of scientific inovations such as robots, chatbots and self driving cars. Consequently, people have robots for doing their house tasks, chatbot acts like their personal assistant and self driving cars have made their travel more convenient and flexible. For instance, artificial intelligence is transforming all industries and making work more effcient.
Critics believe that scientic development can be dangerous for human and can caused for unemployments. Although, these concerns are valid but the disadvantages don't outweigh the
advantages and with proper regulations and strict guidance we can overcome on these issues. In fact
advancements in science created more opportunities in every field.
In conclosion, I firmly believe that more people should pariticipate in scientific research and work for the betterment of lives as well as ecosystem. Due to which people will have more chances of healthy life and environment. In Addition, it will not only improved our living standards but also beneficial for better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding medicine and technology are relevant and supported with examples, such as the development of vaccines during the pandemic and the use of AI in industry. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial; for instance, the counter-argument regarding unemployment is mentioned but not fully explored or integrated into the broader discussion. The conclusion introduces a new point about the ecosystem which was not previously discussed, making it slightly disconnected from the main body. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph fully explores the implications of the points raised rather than listing them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition,' 'Consequently,' and 'For instance,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disjointed, such as the abrupt shift between the counter-argument and the conclusion. Referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more sophisticated to better link the counter-argument to the main thesis. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more natural and varied.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific terminology like 'scientific innovations,' 'artificial intelligence,' and 'betterment.' However, there are several spelling errors ('becuase,' 'inovations,' 'scientic,' 'conclosion,' 'pariticipate') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'now the people have to worried less.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and expanding their range of collocations to sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles (e.g., 'can caused for unemployments,' 'it will not only improved'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing spaces after periods and inconsistent capitalization. The errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent tense usage, and refining the accuracy of complex sentence constructions.
