Student answer (Band 5.0)

The crucial aim of modern technology should be to improve individuals' lives. In my opinion, science helps us in every field of life. Science has made our modern life. Science provides a lot of tools and ideas to solve our daily problems. Therefore, my take is i agree with that statement.

The most important reason that I agree with that statement is that today science has become necessary in our daily life. Science gives so much help to doctors in the treatment of patients. For example, science has discovered new machines in the medical field. In the past, cancer patients died due to local treatment, and now cancer treatment is available. There are so many hospitals made for cancer treatment, and it is very helpful to needy people. Another reason that science has been very helpful to our offices, banks, and markets.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 142 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the student takes a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient detail or examples to fully explore the prompt. The essay ends abruptly, failing to provide a conclusion or a balanced discussion of the extent of agreement. Because the response is substantially under-length, it cannot be awarded a score higher than Band 5 for Task Achievement, as the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and repetitive manner, such as starting sentences with 'Science' or 'The most important reason'. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow the writer's intent, the lack of development and the mechanical use of transitions prevent a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Words like 'science', 'help', 'important', and 'treatment' are used frequently without variation. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an attempt to use precise academic vocabulary. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, the student should focus on using synonyms and more specific terminology related to the topic of scientific advancement and its societal impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple, repetitive sentence structures. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'my take is i agree' (capitalization and phrasing) and 'science has been very helpful to our offices' (missing verb). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. The student needs to incorporate a wider variety of sentence types, including complex and compound sentences, while ensuring accuracy.
