Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is believed that science should mainly focus on advancing people's lives. While science focus on all aspects of discoveries, I believe that it should contribute majority of its discoveries by bringing convenience into people's lives. It is mainly due to the fact that all of the tools and technologies which promotes our well being is heavily relied on scientific reasoning and all these scientific findings has always helped humans in one form or another.
Science promotes bringing innovation and technologies, which then brings easiness to our daily lives. It is because all the technologies we see and use today are manufacture with the theories and findings of science. For example, batteries are made by various chemical components which when combined together provides energy and are used in vehicles, electronics, etc. Therefore, science are the building blocks of the technologies we use today.
Almost all the revelation of science has been and always will be a part to improve human daily lives. All the theories, findings, discoveries, invention and exploration have always benefited our live in one way or another. For instance, past history tells us the pattern for further prediction, discoveries of the various types of bacteria helps us figure out which of these will positively or negatively affects our human body. Thus, all these scientific studies will somehow aid to upgrade our day to day lives.
To conclude, I believe that though it is important for science to do what they are best at which is building knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world through systematic observation and testing, their main focus should always be to help people have a better present lives with regard to their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of science focusing on improving lives. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. While you provide examples like batteries and bacteria, the explanation remains at a general level rather than exploring the nuance of the 'extent' of your agreement. The argument could be strengthened by acknowledging counter-arguments or exploring the potential conflict between pure scientific research and practical application. The conclusion is a bit wordy and restates the position without adding significant depth. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than reiterating the same general idea.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Therefore', and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by repetitive phrasing. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the concept of technology to the broader scope of scientific discovery. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of the argument would benefit from more varied cohesive markers to avoid a formulaic structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'innovation', 'systematic observation', and 'scientific reasoning'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'brings easiness' (should be 'improves convenience' or 'facilitates daily tasks') and 'manufacture with' (should be 'manufactured using'). The repetition of words like 'discoveries', 'science', and 'lives' limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, focus on using synonyms and more precise collocations to express your ideas with greater clarity and variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'science focus' (should be 'science focuses'), 'technologies... is heavily relied' (should be 'are heavily reliant'), and 'science are the building blocks' (should be 'science is the building block'). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'positively or negatively affects our human body'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
