Student answer (Band 6.0)

Science should play a vital role in improving people’s life has become a major topic of discussion in recent times. In my perspective, I strongly agree to this stance, as the science has made the human life so easy and it should make more advancements to improve people lives particularly in healthcare settings and hunger relief.

On the one hand, science is bringing major improvements, its main objective should be to enhance people lives. As developing new medicines and vaccines can prevent deadly diseases and advancement in food preservation section will help reduce hunger and poverty. I believe that health and food are the basic necessities which every individual required for survival. Science should focus more on developing new healthcare and food services so that people are able to access them easily. For example there should be a proper cancer treatment plan medication so that cancer is completely eradicated moreover food production and preservation techniques should be developed to eliminate hunger issues.

On the other hand, science is also contributing towards technology where artificial intelligence is leading the world. I believe that these advancements are necessary to ease the workload but health and food related issues are much more important to be considered.

In the conclusion, science main objective should be to improve people lives is essential because it will work for human life betterment and will ensure health and wellbeing. Therefore, it is essential to utilize science projects and advancements in improving people lives rather than focusing on artificial intelligence alone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing relevant arguments regarding healthcare and food security. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention artificial intelligence, the comparison is brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples; for instance, instead of just mentioning 'cancer treatment,' explain how scientific research specifically improves the quality of life for patients. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the introduction rather than synthesizing the main points. The ideas are relevant but remain at a surface level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'In the conclusion' to signal shifts in the text. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words is repetitive. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the idea of healthcare with the counter-argument regarding technology. Improving the variety of cohesive devices would enhance the logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advancements,' 'eradicated,' and 'necessities.' However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'science has made the human life so easy' (should be 'made life easier') and 'food preservation section' (should be 'sector'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'improve people lives' throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'every individual required' (should be 'requires'), 'science main objective' (should be 'science's main objective'), and 'improving people lives' (missing possessive 'people's'). These errors occur frequently but do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and ensure accurate use of articles, prepositions, and possessive forms.
