Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and drawbacks of technology. However, the position is not consistently maintained throughout the essay. While you mention that science is necessary, the conclusion is somewhat ambiguous, stating that technology has 'side affects' and is 'harmful' despite earlier arguments about its convenience. The ideas are relevant, but the development is sometimes superficial. For example, the point about job replacement is introduced but not fully explored in relation to the prompt's core question about whether the 'most important aim' of science should be to improve lives. To improve, ensure your thesis is clear and that every paragraph directly supports your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To examplify with' and 'As result' are non-standard and disrupt the flow. Furthermore, the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, such as the jump from the benefits of transport to the benefits of education. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and occasional issues with referencing (e.g., 'their worse reactions') make the text feel somewhat disjointed. Improving the variety and accuracy of your cohesive devices will significantly enhance the readability of your work.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express basic ideas about technology and society. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'people addicted by new technologies' (should be 'addicted to') and 'side affects' (should be 'side effects'). You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'detrimental' and 'efficient', but these are often surrounded by awkward phrasing. To reach a higher band, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word forms are correct. Avoid using informal or non-standard expressions to maintain a more academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('advanced technology have'), missing articles ('in fast era'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors require the reader to work harder to understand your points. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree and that you are using articles correctly before nouns.
