Student answer (Band 6.0)

It goes without saying that science was introduced to improve the lives of the people and make it easy . I largely agree with this statement and would like to discuss in the upcoming paragraph .

The first reason to agree with this statement is that humans are moving forward in the line of science to create new inventions which can make people lives easier . Therefore the science should be used in the best way to save the resources which are most important for human lives . For example the creation of mobile phone made it much easier to contact with someone who lives at a long distance . Moreover , everything created by science almost always helped the humans except the weapons. If science is not used to improve the human live we will not be able to focus on other things as it will be much harder for us to focus on ours live and in day to day tasks.

However, there are some reasons to disagree with this statement . The first is that science should not only focus on making people's lives easy , it should also focus on the other sectors of the earth which are necessary for the plant . The goal of the science should not be fixed to a single thing , it should also focus on saving wild life and nature

In the end it can be concluded that science should mostly focus on improving people's lives but should also not ignore the other factors which are important for earth

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a relevant example regarding mobile phones, the explanation of why science should focus on other sectors (like wildlife) is quite brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed reasoning or specific examples. For instance, you could explain how environmental science indirectly benefits human life in the long term, thereby strengthening your argument rather than presenting it as a separate, competing point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'The first reason', 'Therefore', 'Moreover', and 'However'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with spaces before commas. The transition between the main body paragraphs could be smoother to better link the two sides of the argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks sophistication. Phrases like 'make it easy' and 'make people lives easier' are used multiple times. There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'human live' instead of 'human life' and 'necessary for the plant' instead of 'necessary for the planet'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure correct word forms are used throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'science was introduced to improve the lives of the people and make it easy' and 'the science should be used'. There are also frequent issues with article usage (e.g., 'the science') and pluralization (e.g., 'people lives'). To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of complex structures with greater accuracy and pay closer attention to basic subject-verb agreement and article usage.
