Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of science in improving lives, but the position is not fully developed. While you provide examples of medical and technological advancements, the essay lacks a clear, consistent argument regarding the 'extent' of your agreement. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. To improve, ensure you explicitly state your position in the introduction and maintain a clear line of argument throughout the body paragraphs. The conclusion summarizes the points well but does not add further insight or reinforce the central thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Overall' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally weak, such as in the phrase 'with we can connect', which disrupts the logical flow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the transition between ideas is smoother and more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'innovations', 'anatomy', and 'sustainability'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'greatest of innovations' (should be 'the greatest innovations'), 'advance thinking ability creature' (should be 'advanced thinking creatures'), and 'energy boom'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations and refining your control over word forms will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('millions of species has been discovered'), tense errors ('had took place'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tense usage throughout your paragraphs.
