Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by arguing that science should improve lives, focusing on transportation and communication. However, the development is limited. The ideas are somewhat repetitive, and the essay lacks a nuanced discussion of other potential aims of science (e.g., pure knowledge or environmental preservation), which would have provided a more balanced perspective. The position is clear, but the supporting examples are somewhat anecdotal and lack the depth required for a higher band. To improve, you should aim to explore the implications of your argument more thoroughly and ensure that your points are fully extended rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward transitions and mechanical phrasing. For example, 'Let start from the significance science' and 'In conclusion, in the fact above information' are unnatural and do not effectively guide the reader. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices, they are often used incorrectly or repetitively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making the flow of ideas feel disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on basic terms like 'easy', 'comfortable', and 'things', which limits the sophistication of your argument. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'vehicle's one of the establishment of science' and 'sent a latter'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and ensure that you are using words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('facilities increasing'), tense usage ('I had use the latter'), and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices and capitalization. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses would be a great next step.
