Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits and potential dangers of scientific development. However, the position is not fully developed. The introduction is brief, and the conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. While the essay touches on medical advancements and artificial intelligence, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The prompt asks for the extent of agreement, but the essay remains somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a clear, extended argument that directly relates to the central thesis, and always complete your conclusion to provide a final summary of your position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition between ideas relies on simple phrases like 'Similarly' and 'On the other hand'. There are also issues with referencing; the phrase 'The advantages will be discussed in the below paragraph' is slightly awkward and could be integrated more naturally. The abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence, as the final paragraph fails to provide a logical closure to the essay's argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'science', 'technology', and 'development'. Phrases such as 'lot of loop holes' and 'make human live easier' are imprecise or grammatically incorrect. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'artificial intelligence' and 'job market', the overall range is limited. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and avoiding repetitive, simple sentence structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'science improve' (subject-verb agreement), 'since last two decades' (preposition error), and 'make become threat' (incorrect verb form). There is a mix of simple and complex sentences, but the complex structures often contain errors, such as 'artificial Intelligence are make humans unproductive'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete final sentence is a major issue. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense markers when discussing past versus present developments.
