Student answer (Band 4.5)

I completely agree with the statement that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. But what is the most effective method for dealing with the science is small efforts for people to change their lives, people are living with the old trends and superstitions made by themselves and also teach their childeren to follow these things. Some people beleive that science have not effect on them so they do whatever they want but it's not always like that people have to think about theirselves which is the most important thing for them. For example, if someone is capable to do something better with their ideas using science is the best thing he can ever do. Scientists also make every thing so easy for human beings but they should do something for the stereotypes which have been made by people. they

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 145 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the subsequent arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and supporting examples required for an academic essay. The discussion regarding 'superstitions' and 'stereotypes' is tangential and does not clearly link back to the prompt about the role of science. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific, relevant examples and ensure you address all parts of the prompt in a structured manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Ideas are presented in a fragmented manner, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt or confusing, such as the shift from 'old trends' to 'science have not effect'. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas effectively, and the paragraphing is non-existent, which makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, you should use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') to connect your thoughts and ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed main idea.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple phrasing. There are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'dealing with the science is small efforts' and 'science have not effect'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to science and society, and practice using synonyms to avoid repetition. Additionally, ensure you use words in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'science have not effect'), pronoun usage ('theirselves' instead of 'themselves'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making the flow disjointed. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex structures.
