Student answer (Band 4.5)

The most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives in this rapidly changing world. Some people believe that it has some drawbacks on human's lives but others believe that science has definitely bring the positive changes in the lives of human being.

I strongly agree with this view, as Science has made the life easier for humans in the fields of Medical and Education. But on the other hand, it has some drawbacks like in the field of technology much more life toxic games and social media has negatively impact the life of human beings.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 99 words long. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. You mention medical and educational advancements and briefly touch upon the drawbacks of technology, but these points lack the necessary explanation, supporting evidence, or examples required for an IELTS Task 2 essay. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with detailed arguments and specific examples to fully explore the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The essay is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at structure with an introduction and a brief mention of opposing views, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess your ability to manage cohesion. You use basic connectors like 'But on the other hand', but the overall flow is disjointed due to the abrupt ending and lack of a conclusion. To achieve a higher score, you need to organize your ideas into distinct, well-developed paragraphs with clear topic sentences and a wider range of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'improve people's lives' and 'human beings' are used without much variation. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'science has definitely bring the positive changes' (should be 'has definitely brought') and 'toxic games'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and to add precision to your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'it has some drawbacks on human's lives' is awkward, and 'science has definitely bring' shows an incorrect verb tense. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent. The errors are frequent relative to the short length of the text. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement, verb tense consistency, and the use of complex sentence structures such as relative clauses or conditional sentences.
