Student answer (Band 5.5)

The utmost valuable purpose of science should be for the betterment of human's life.

I definitely go along with this idea. If governments make policies about this notion, there are surely mores chances of betterment in a society. It will push scientists to create such inventions which are useful for individuals in every aspect of life.

In this advanced era, science has already taken a lot of role in everyday life. Every invention makes life more easy. For example, nowadays cars and bikes are replaced by electric bikes because they are more convenient to use ,light weight and get charged by electricity in few hours. In underdeveloped countries , where fuel prices are so high electric bikes are best alternative. In the past , there was so much physical labor which was very exhausting for laborers. But now with the machinery usage, manual hard work has significantly decreased. We assign task to a machine and it works for us just because of science and technology. Another instance of science applies in grocery stores. Before , people used to go to marts for any kind of shopping which was difficult because every time you need something urgent, you are not in position to go there physically . Now, online apps are there. You don't need to go there in person , you just open the app and order everything you are in need of and it will get delivered at your doorstep. In conclusion, science has become a way of enhancement of world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like electric bikes and online shopping, the discussion remains at a surface level. To reach a higher band, you should explore the 'extent' of your agreement more deeply—perhaps by acknowledging that while improving lives is a primary goal, science also serves the purpose of pure discovery or understanding the universe. The current arguments are relevant but lack the depth and nuance required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the structure is quite basic. The transition between ideas is often mechanical, relying on simple connectors like 'In this advanced era' or 'In conclusion'. Some sentences feel disconnected, such as the sudden shift to grocery stores in the third paragraph. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that links back to the main thesis statement.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You use repetitive phrasing, such as 'betterment' twice in the first two sentences. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'taken a lot of role' instead of 'played a significant role' and 'make life more easy' instead of 'make life easier'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations that demonstrate a higher level of control over the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'human's life' (should be 'human life'), 'mores chances' (should be 'more chances'), and 'in few hours' (should be 'in a few hours'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage.
