Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, we can see various inventions which were just a dream in the past done by science. The most crucial motive of modern science such as technology and latest healthcare systems, should be to better people's living. I strongly agree to the statement and I would explain it with my own knowledge and concern.

First of all, I believe that science has done miacles in making our lives easier and more convenient. Today, we have far more facilities in every aspect of our live as compared to our ancestors. Let us take an example of modern technology. The digital devices we have in our hands help us collecting any sort of information anytime and anywhere in the world. We can contact our loved ones and even see them no matter how far they live from us. This boom in technology is no doubt a great improvement in people's everyday life.

Additionaly, there are multiple other factors where science has proved to be a helper. For instance, science has helped a lot in general health sectors. There are a lot of deseases that humans were not able to cure. Typhoid is one of the examples which was once fatal but with the help of medical science, humans were able to find the cure and invent different vaccines that were helpful for treating Typhoid and various other deseases.

In conclusion, history is filled with examples where science has improved the living in the society and I believe that this should be the future as well. There maybe some personal concerns related such as financial interests of the researchers but the main and most important goal of modern science should be improving the individual's basic lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on technology and healthcare as evidence for the importance of science in improving lives. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the examples of digital devices and typhoid are clear, they could be extended further to explore the 'extent' of the agreement more deeply. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main argument, though it introduces a slight shift by mentioning 'financial interests,' which is not fully integrated into the preceding body paragraphs. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all,' 'Additionaly,' and 'For instance' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are minor issues with cohesion; for example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt, and some referencing is a bit mechanical. Despite these minor flaws, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'miacles' (misspelled) and 'fatal.' However, there are several spelling errors ('miacles' for miracles, 'live' for lives, 'Additionaly' for Additionally, 'deseases' for diseases) and some awkward collocations like 'better people's living.' While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision and attention to spelling to reach a higher band. The range is sufficient but lacks the sophistication required for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'inventions which were just a dream in the past done by science' (awkward phrasing) and 'every aspect of our live' (incorrect pluralization). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are generally accurate, but the sentence structure occasionally feels repetitive. While the errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, the student should focus on refining complex sentence structures and ensuring consistent accuracy in basic grammar, particularly pluralization and word forms.
