Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While you mention career opportunities and medical advancements, the explanations lack depth and specific, well-integrated evidence. For instance, the example regarding NASA is vague, and the mention of COVID-19 is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should focus on extending your arguments with more detailed analysis rather than just stating the points. The conclusion effectively restates your position, but the overall development remains at a basic level, which is characteristic of a Band 5.5 or 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Another important reason', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' when referring to 'science' or 'scientists'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would help improve the cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'advancements', 'career opportunities', and 'treatments'. However, there is a lack of range, and you rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'science are' (which is also a grammatical error) and 'people's lives'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'oppurtunities' and 'alot'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations, while ensuring accurate spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. A significant issue is subject-verb agreement, such as 'science are progressing' and 'science are inventing'. Additionally, there are errors with articles and pluralisation, such as 'Aim of science can become widely debated issue' and 'in the term of'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and article usage, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
