Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of science improving lives. The ideas are relevant, focusing on career opportunities and medical advancements. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of how science creates career opportunities is repetitive and lacks depth, relying on vague phrases like 'improving the invention of multiple hidden things'. The example regarding NASA is a bit simplistic. The medical argument is better supported with the COVID-19 example, though the phrasing is imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced explanations and avoid over-generalizing the impact of scientific progress.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'This is mainly because' and 'Another important reason' are used as standard templates. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of 'they' to refer to 'science' or 'scientists' in a way that creates ambiguity. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun references would enhance the flow of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. You rely on basic terms like 'important', 'good', and 'things', which limits the precision of your argument. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in the term of accurate treatments' and 'Unexpected disease came into being name as COVID'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of a wider range of academic vocabulary prevents a higher score. Focusing on learning collocations and more precise academic terminology would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'science are progressing' and 'science are inventing'. There are also issues with article usage and punctuation, such as the unnecessary capitalization in 'Unexpected disease came into being name as COVID'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. You should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article consistency.
