Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on career opportunities and medical advancements. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between science and 'career opportunities' is asserted rather than explained in depth, and the example regarding NASA is quite general. The argument regarding medical advancements is better supported with the COVID-19 example, though it remains somewhat simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced explanations and explore the counter-arguments or broader implications of scientific progress more thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'This is mainly because' and 'For example'. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the second paragraph, which does not clearly refer back to a specific noun. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns have clear antecedents would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'advancements', 'treatments', and 'significant impact'. However, there is a lack of variety and some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'invention of multiple hidden things' or 'Unexpected disease came into being'. The range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and academic synonyms to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'science are progressing', 'NASA are growing') and incorrect article usage. There are also punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas and inconsistent capitalisation. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for punctuation would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
