Student answer (Band 5.5)
Science has played fundamental role in human civilization, transforming the the way people live, work, communicate and understand the world. Therefore, the critical purpose of science is to advance the quality of human's life. I agree with this notion as it has negative affects on the humans lives by participating in biological wars, advance technology in weapons. So, it should have the goal of positively improving the human's life.
To begin with, the advancements in science has nagetively affect the life by contributing in biological wars. For example recently COVID-19 was a type of biological war which has not only affect the lives of thousands of people but also the economy of the countries too. It had high mortality rate and people also suffered from their devastating affects. COVID-19 badly affect human way of living.
Furthermore, advances in weapons technology also has devastating concequences on the quality of life. For instance the countries who have atomic power could badly affect the other countries not only destructing their major parts of the country but also leaving the after war concequences. as atom bomb was thrown on Hirochima Japan had affects on their coming nation for many years after war.
In contrast, science has improved human's life in every aspect of life either it is health, technology, buiesnes. It improved the every minor aspect of life, So science has more beneficial affects then negative aspects.
In conclusion, science can have bad affects on life but it could be reduced by applying proper strategies so we can have only the maximum benefits of it to fasalitate human lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you mention biological warfare and weapons technology, the link between these examples and the core argument is sometimes unclear. For instance, claiming COVID-19 was a 'biological war' is a controversial and unsupported assertion that weakens your argument. The discussion on the benefits of science is quite brief compared to the negative aspects, leading to an unbalanced essay. To improve, ensure your arguments are logically sound and provide more detailed, accurate examples to support your position throughout the entire essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', 'In conclusion'). There are instances where the progression of ideas feels disjointed, particularly in the transition between the negative impacts of science and the brief mention of its benefits. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better logical connectors to create a smoother narrative throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'negative affects' (should be 'effects'), 'participating in biological wars', and 'fasalitate' (facilitate). You rely on a limited set of words, and some phrasing is awkward or unnatural. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure you are using words in their correct grammatical form and context, paying close attention to common spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'advancements... has nagetively affect'), incorrect article usage (e.g., 'the the way'), and misuse of plural forms (e.g., 'human's life' instead of 'human life'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
