Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of science improving lives. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the argument. While the ideas regarding medical and agricultural advancements are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive in their structure. To reach a higher band, you must ensure the essay is fully developed and reaches the minimum word count, as the current length prevents a thorough exploration of the topic and results in an unfinished conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In addition' to organize ideas. Paragraphing is present, which helps the reader follow the progression of arguments. However, the abrupt ending of the essay negatively impacts the overall coherence, as the final paragraph is not completed. The logical flow is generally clear, but the lack of a finished conclusion makes the structure feel incomplete. To improve, ensure that all paragraphs are fully developed and that the essay concludes with a coherent summary that reinforces the initial position.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'life expectancy', 'antibiotics', and 'breakthroughs'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'technological advance world' instead of 'technologically advanced world' and 'has hugely benefit' instead of 'has hugely benefited'. Some collocations are also imprecise, such as 'science growth' instead of 'scientific progress'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, more precision and fewer errors in word form would be required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example, 'developments has hugely benefit' and 'vaccine shots has successfully'. There are also issues with pluralization, such as 'every persons' and 'save countless life'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency, and try to incorporate more varied, error-free complex structures.
